Xeto and Haystack 5 – Data Modeling to Provide Unprecedented Capabilities to Industrial AI
The definition of interoperability has changed over time. For many, the goal of interoperability historically has been to get the equipment to work together across a number of protocols. However, now it means much more. Interoperability, with a capital “I”, extends earlier definitions to includes the harmonization of data so that data can be utilized across a portfolio of equipment, manufacturers, among different members of the value chain, across heterogenous applications, etc. over the lifecycle of the data. And, ontologies, such as Haystack, are at the core to addressing this challenge.
This presentation will cover:
1. What is Project Haystack? https://www.project-haystack.org/...an ontology, open-source, community driven
2. What is Haxall? https://haxall.io Haxall is an open source software framework for the Internet of Things. It includes an extensive toolkit for working with Project
Haystack data. Use it right out of the box as a flexible IoT data gateway which runs at the edge.
3. Why industrial engineers, data scientists, etc. should leverage efforts that started in the commercial built environment?
4. Why is Haystack important? ...interoperability, consistency, automation, efficiency, quality
5. An overview of the Department of Energy (DOE) funded project - Metadata for
the Masses: Semantic Interoperability in the Real World.
o A three year initiative that will be completed this year (2025)
o The goals of the project included a validation process for Haystack semantic models and a public repository to store, share and retrieve specs for different devices/applications.
6. What are the deliverables from the initiative?
o Xeto is a new innovative foundational open-source technology. Xeto is a data specification and encoding language. Xeto is the technology that addresses the key historical criticisms of data tagging methodologies –consistency and validation. Xeto will enable validation of semantic models.
o Xeto’s philosophy includes the building, validating, querying, and sharing of specs.
o There will also be tool sets for the community to utilize and utilize Xeto for their own use.
o Xeto.dev, an open source public cloud repository for specs.
7. How will Haystack 5 (and Xeto) benefit AI?
o Consistency in data modeling application requirements for control sequences, analytics, and
visualization. Templates for points, attributes, protocol addressing, product
literature
o The ability to validate models/specs
o Efficiencies through:
sharing/reuse of specs and equipment information
accelerating the process of building the models/specs
rapid validation
o Interoperability
across devices
across applications
the ability to output in other formats, including: JSON, RDF, Fantom, TypeScript
8. What’s to come in the future?
